MANGER SET (Snowy scene)
Of the over 250 wood pieces, that I have carved over the years, the Manger Set is my Pride and Joy.
The entire set is constructed out of redwood . The cresch is made out of 1/2" redwood, and stands about 14" high. It was given a splash of gray wash, to give it a weathered appearance. The base, which measures about 28" across, and 16" deep, was made out of 3/4" redwood
The human figures stand about 5" to 6" tall. Redwood is a flesh-colored wood, so they already have a natural look to them. The figures were sanded lightly, and highlighted with cherry stain, to bring out the detail.
The little Manger stands about 2" tall, and was shaped from 1/2" redwood. The Baby was carved out of 3/4" redwood, and the blanket, was given a white/gray wash.
The Three Wise Men; the sheperds (3); and Joseph and Mary stand about 5" to 6" tall.
The little sheep (5ea.) stand about 3" tall and were given a white/gray wash, for more realism. Real sand covers the entire base area; two reddish rocks were placed on either end of the scene; the manger area was sprinkled with real straw; and the final process, involved covering the entire piece with powdered snow, to create a snowy scene.
NOTE: The photo for this scene, will be available at a later date.
